At a recent board meeting, Mike Eley, BSC, was elected the new President of the British Society of Cinematographers. He succeeds Barry Ackroyd, BSC, who headed the society from 2014 to 2017. Richard Andry, President of the AFC, greets in few words his accession to the Presidency of the BSC.

On behalf of the AFC, I want to greet our friend Michael Eley, the new President of the BSC, who succeeds Barry Ackroyd. If I will miss the strong conviction in the defense of our craft and artistry and the frankness expressed in each of Barry’s editorials in the British Cinematographer Magazine, I am delighted to see Mike reaching at the head of the BSC, our prestigious sister Society with which we always have developed a privileged relationship. And I am sure, as his glorious predecessors, he will be a great President.

In Cannes in 2015, on the occasion of the presentation of the Pierre Angénieux ExcelLens in Cinematography Award to Roger Deakins, BSC, we were both in charge of the welcoming speeches, him for the BSC, myself for the AFC, and we could appreciate each other and fraternizing. But we were far from thinking, at this moment, that, in 2017, we would be together Presidents of our respective amazing societies.

Congratulations Mike ! And long live the friendship between our two societies.
Cheers !

Richard Andry, AFC
