A partial list of presentations at the Micro Salon 2012
Since most of the AFC’s associate members will be presenting at this two-day event, we would like to publish a summary of what they will be presenting. Here is a summary of their presentation along with the program and schedule of the workshops, meet-and-greet sessions, and screenings.

- Airstar – Basement Level
– Airstar will be presenting a prototype of its Daylight Mini Tube with integrated reflector (uncovered use only) : 60 cm in maximum diameter !
In order to rapidly offer you its Mini tube Daylight techonology with 400 W HMI bulbs, up to 60 cm thick, Airstar would like to take the advantage of your visit to the AFC’s 2012 Micro Salon in order to “create” specifications with you that will allow us to manufacture a product that is particularly appropriate in “size” to natural interior decors with all of the advantages of the diffuse light provided by Airstar balloons. We are waiting for your visit so that we can “progress” and “innovate” together !

- Arri – Ground Floor
– Arri presents the Alexa Studio (Workshop on the 1st Floor).
Frank Van Vught, a cinematographer and Arri consultant, will introduce the Alexa Studio. The star product in the lineup, it combines all of the Alexa and Alexa Plus’ features and adds three unique new features. A 4/3 sensor, which makes it the only digital camera besides the Arriflex D-21 to offer real X2 anamorphic, and like the Arricam ST, it has a silent, adjustable continuously spinning reflex mirror shutter, and an optical sight that provides operators with real-time images in high contrast and with true colour.
During this workshop, Frank will unveil all of this camera’s technical advantages, as well as its recording option : Prores, Arriraw, (soon DNXHD), and will answer your questions.
- Binocle – Set 4 – 2d Floor
– Binocle is a developer and supplier of the most innovative tools for all 3D television and cinema professionals.
It is also a production company specialized in shooting and editing stereoscopic images. Binocle 3D is based on the company’s expertise in digital shooting and seven years of R&D.
Binocle 3D has developed partnerships with laboratories like the INIRIA in Grenoble and international companies in order to accelerate the transition towards 3DS HDTV.
- Cinesphere (AFC Guest) – Basement Level
– Jurgen Thiele, gaffer, introduces a lighting tube based on “plasma” technology.
- Craft Communication (AFC Guest) – Basement Level
– Steve Duchesne introduces a shooting robot.

- Fujifilm - Fujinon – Ground Floor
– This year for the first time, Fujifilm and Fujinon will be presenting together at the same stand on the ground floor of La fémis, since our businesses merged almost a year ago. Our technical and sales teams will be pleased to answer all of your questions.
– You will be able to admire our complete range of Fujinon lens mounts.
The 4 zooms from our “PL Mount” range meet the cinematographic industry’s most specific demands and include many technologies, such as “colour-matching” glass. The +4K zoom focus resolution allows for the use of a zoom instead of multiple fixed focuses.
– You will also be able to obtain information on our wide range of silver-process film and it will be our pleasure to show you a film introducing RDS, our latest innovation in silver-process film, which is already seen as one of the best solutions for archival.
- HD-Systems – Ground Floor
– HD-Systems will present for its second Micro Salon :
- A range of digital emulsions including creation
• LUT’s for “on set” previewing and pre-editing
• Gamma curves (125, 250, 500, 640, 1000 ISO) For Genesis Cameras, F35, F9000, F23, F950 et HDC-1500, F900, F800
- A new version of its nomad data management stations that allow :
• Saving in HD-SDI format with 1 or 2 uncompressed synchronous flux (DPX, TIFF…)
• The creation of " proxy " files for assembly or pre-assembly including “on set” LUT preview. (These files maintain the colorimetric and contrast of the digital originals).
– HD-Systems will also introduce,
- Preston Cinema Systems’ latest products, which we distribute in the EU, alongside the company’s president, Howard Preston.
- K5600 Lighting – Basement Level
– K5600 Lighting presents the full range of 1600 W. The Alpha, with the same advantages as the Alpha 4 and 18 kW, was introduced last year.
-This year, the Joker Bug 1600 W, made up of a 1600 W Bug and a Beamer Par, will be introduced to the profession.
• Also, there will be an exclusive preview of the Beamer Zoom, a multiple-segment reflector that allows 14° - 68° focus with crisp shadow quality and optimal performance.
• The Bug system uses the same Speedrings as the other Joker Bugs and the same possibility of filming in a shower.
• The electronic ballast is the same size as the 800, which allows for storage in a wheeled “fly case”.
The ballast comes standard with the possibility of being commuted to 300 Hz and 1000 Hz for high-speed shots. Recent tests carried out with the BBC in preparation for the London Olympics in 2012 were performed at speeds of 25,000 i/s without any flicker.

• The Alpha 1600 is already available for sale and the Joker Bug systems will be available in early March.
- Loumasystems – 2d Floor
– Loumasystems presents the Louma 2 and its real-time on-set preview system (“Previz on set”). This system allows its operator to see the composite image made up of the real set and virtual set extensions while shooting.
Martin Scorsese used Louma 2’s real-time preview for Hugo Cabret and on Bryan Singer’s new film, Jack the Giant Killer, which will be released this summer.
– Loumasystems will also introduce the new version of its Key Head.
- Mikros image – Salle Jean Renoir – 2d Floor
– On Friday the 10th, Christophe Courgeau, Matte Painter, will present his work on the film Les Tribulations d’une caissière by Pierre Rambaldi.
- Next Shot – Entrance Courtyard
– Next Shot will present its Scorpio Arm vehicle.
- Nexyad (AFC Guest) – 2d Floor
– Nexyad, a developer of innovative algorithms for visual editing will present :
- Sophisticated American nights and impeccable “Day for night”/ “Night for Night” transitions
- Management of greens and blues in real backgrounds (non-uniform backgrounds, transparent objects)
- Heavy pre-calibration (like 300, Amélie Poulain, Minority Report, etc.)
- 3D integrated into the real, the real integrated into 3D
- Intelligent de-noising and de-graining (without modifying the contours)
- Heavy sharpness effects without adding grain/noise or breaking delicate colour transitions
- Calculated slowdowns (without jaggedness, “averaging”, or artefacts on the darkened zones).
- Panavision Alga - Panalux – Set 3, 2d Floor
– Panavision Alga et Panalux, will show off their role as innovators in cinema by presenting new equipment at the 2012 Micro Salon.
Panvision Alga will present new lenses and its system for managing dailies on location, which is an answer to issues of security and previewing. This system will be presented at a workshop to take place on Friday, February 10.
- Thalès Angénieux – Ground Floor
– Thales Angénieux will be presenting in a French trade fair for the first time, and for the occasion will be introducing its new Optimo 45-120 mm, the newest in its “Lightweight” Optimo range

– The 2012 Micro Salon is also the opportunity for Thalès Angénieux to introduce an optimized version of its Angénieux Data System (ADS) Module that integrates protocol and allows for the instant capture of key lens settings and makes lens calibration and synchronization much easier (especially useful in post-production, for special effects, virtual studio, and 3D shots). This module is compatible with Optimo 15-40, 28-76, 45-120mm and the Optimo DP 16-42 and 30-88mm, especially developed for digital cinematography.
- Totavision (AFC Guest) – Ground Floor
– Patrice Garlot presents a range of solutions for 360° panoramic video shots in high resolution and without inserts.
- Transvideo – Ground Floor
– Transvideo presents

- TSF Grip – Set 4 – 2d Floor
– TSF Grip presents
- The new Babydoll Gecko,
The latest manual trolley by Patrick de Coster innovates with its ease-of-manoeuvre forwards and backwards and its modularity : it is sold with additional floors as an option. Its narrow version allows it to be used in the smallest spaces.
It can also be used on straight travelling rails thanks to its special bogies.
The pivoting mount with seats and accessories can be installed or removed rapidly.
- Wireless command system for Mo-Sys heads.
TSF Grip has rounded off the Mo-Sys package by offering a Wireless system that allows for use in complex conditions.
The system was tried out and approved during filming of 3D feature film Amazonia produced by Biloba Films.

- The Flighthead 5 Advanced head in Rig 3D Configuration was tested and used (amongst others) during filming of Astérix et Obélix au service de sa majesté.
