The Annual General Assembly of Imago (IAGA) – the International Federation of Cinematographers – was held in London from 14-15 February 2024, hosted by the BSC. Richard Andry, who represented the AFC alongside Jean-Marie Dreujou, Eric Guichard (Imago’s Controller) and Denis Lenoir (Board member), has written the following detailed and illustrated recap of this event.

L’Assemblée générale annuelle d’Imago (IAGA), Fédération internationale des associations de directeurs et directrices de la photographie, s’est tenue à Londres, les 14 et 15 février 2024, à l’invitation de la BSC. Richard Andry, qui y représentait l’AFC aux côtés de Jean-Marie Dreujou, Eric Guichard, contrôleur financier d’Imago, et Denis Lenoir, membre du Board, revient sur cette réunion en en faisant un compte rendu détaillé et illustré.

Au cours de la soirée de clôture du Festival international du film de Berlin (Berlinale), samedi 24 février 2024, le jury international, présidé par Lupita Nyong’o, a annoncé son palmarès. L’Ours d’or du Meilleur Film (attribué aux producteurs) a été décerné à Dahomey, réalisé par Mati Diop et photographié par Joséphine Drouin-Viallard.

Du 24 janvier au 9 février 2024, la Cinémathèque française propose une rétrospective en l’honneur du cinéaste Claude Miller. Ayant dfébuté en travaillant avec Jean-Luc Godard ou François Truffaut, il s’est imposé rapidement comme l’une des figures du cinéma d’auteur populaire français avec des films qui ont marqué toute une génération de cinéphiles. Des directeurs de la photographie de l’AFC ont œuvré à son côté.

While Killers of the Flower Moon was being presented in the main competition, Barbie won the FilmLight Colour Award for Feature Film at the beginning of the festival. Rodrigo Prieto, AMC, ASC was the cinematographer for both of these films. He is currently in post-production for his first film as director, -Pedro Páramo-, and took a few days off to come to Toruń to accompany his films amidst this dual celebration. Yesterday, Friday, he answered questions from festival attendees following the screening of Barbie.

With the death of cinematographer Romain Winding on Thursday 20th July 2023, the AFC has lost one of its most lovable members. He passed away at the age of 71 at his house in Chambonas (Ardèche, France). Over the course of nearly 30 years, Romain shot, with elegance, sensitivity and simplicity, around sixty feature films and made-for-television movies. Here, we retrace his steps.

Le Festival de la Fiction, dont la 25^e édition se tiendra à La Rochelle du 12 au 17 septembre 2023, offre chaque année la possibilité de découvrir séries et films unitaires présentés dans diverses compétitions officielles (française, européenne et francophone étrangère), hors compétition, en séances spéciales ou lors d’évènements. Parmi la soixantaine de fictions sélectionnées, neuf ont été photographiées par des membres de l’AFC.
