Recap of IAGA 2024 in London By Richard Andry, AFC

The Annual General Assembly of Imago (IAGA) – the International Federation of Cinematographers – was held in London from 14-15 February 2024, hosted by the BSC. Richard Andry, who represented the AFC alongside Jean-Marie Dreujou, Eric Guichard (Imago’s Controller) and Denis Lenoir (Board member), has written the following detailed and illustrated recap of this event.

L’Assemblée générale annuelle d’Imago (IAGA), Fédération internationale des associations de directeurs et directrices de la photographie, s’est tenue à Londres, les 14 et 15 février 2024, à l’invitation de la BSC. Richard Andry, qui y représentait l’AFC aux côtés de Jean-Marie Dreujou, Eric Guichard, contrôleur financier d’Imago, et Denis Lenoir, membre du Board, revient sur cette réunion en en faisant un compte rendu détaillé et illustré.

Les entretiens au Festival de Cannes 2023
The winner of the 2023 Pierre Angénieux Tribute is a filmmaker who loves movement. He honed his skills shooting documentary films,when his passion for cinematography led him to cross paths with British director Ken Loach who offered him the opportunity to shoot Riff Raff, in 1991. He teamed up with Loach on several major films (Raining Stones, Ladybird, My Name is Joe, amongst others) until their The Wind That Shakes the Barley won the Palme d’Or at Cannes in 2006.
He then altered dircetion and worked with Paul Greengrass (United 93, Captain Philips) and filmmaker Kathryn Bigelow, whose films The Hurt Locker and Detroit he shot. Barry Ackroyd, BSC, reminisces with us about his exceptional career and discusses how he creates cinema. (FR)

Collectif "Femmes à la caméra"
Le 26 mars 2022, le collectif Femmes à la Caméra (FALC) organisait à La Fémis une table ronde sur les obstacles et difficultés à trouver un équilibre entre carrière et maternité, notamment dans le secteur de l’audiovisuel. FALC met les différentes interventions en ligne au fur et à mesure afin pouvoir les regarder à son rythme.

Série noire filmée à deux caméras mobiles en Forêt-Noire d’un côté, drame caniculaire provençal cadré au cordeau sur tête à manivelles de l’autre, la série en 4x52 mn "Les Disparus de la Forêt-Noire" (lauréate du Grand prix du Festival Polar de Cognac), d’Ivan Fegyvères, et le téléfilm Une confession, réalisé par Hélène Fillières, pourraient difficilement être plus éloignés l’un de l’autre en termes visuels – sans parler de la température ambiante. Ces différences n’ont pas empêché leur directeur de la photographie commun, Stephan Massis, AFC, de choisir les mêmes Zeiss Supreme Radiance conjugués à une Sony Venice pour les filmer. Devant les images projetées sur le grand écran d’Amazing Digital en compagnie de Fred Savoir, étalonneur sur les deux projets, il nous a expliqué comment cette expérimentation a porté ses fruits.
