“The Terror” is a television series that lies somewhere between a historical study and a fantastic tale. It is an adaptation of Dan Simmons’ bestseller, which narrates the 1848 British expedition to the Arctic intended to locate the Northwest Passage. Both ships (the HMS Terror and Erebus) disappeared without a trace, providing the opportunity for Ridley Scott to explore a new variation on the theme he has been exploring since the first Alien movie, forty years ago. Florian Hoffmeister, BSC, was responsible for the cinematography on the series’ first episodes and therefore set the tone for the rest of the story, which is set in isolation between sea and ice. Le Festival "Chefs Op’ en lumière", pour sa quatrième édition qui s’est déroulée du 28 février au 6 mars 2022 à Chalon-sur-Saône, proposait une table ronde lors de laquelle les chefs opérateurs Xavier Dolléans, AFC, et José Gerel, au côté de la cheffe opératrice Marion Rey, ont pris part à une discussion, animée par Yonca Talu, sur le passé, présent et futur de la production des séries télé.

Lors de la cérémonie de clôture de l’édition 2024 de Séries Mania, vendredi 22 mars à Lille, le jury, présidé par le réalisateur américain Zal Batmanglij, a remis le Grand Prix de la Compétition internationale à la série franco-hongroise "Rematch", réalisée par Yan England et photographiée par Jérôme Sabourin, CSC. Il a par ailleurs décerné la Meilleure série de la Compétition française à "Machine", réalisée par Fred Grivois et photographiée par Martin Roux, AFC.

Created by Tara Hernandez and Damon Lindelof, "Mrs. Davis" is an eight-episode series produced by Warner Bros TV released on its own streaming service Peacock in late April. Xavier Dolléans, AFC, was the cinematographer for episodes 3 and 4, directed by Alethea Jones and shot in Spain. Interviewed here by screenwriter and director Jonathan Bensimhon, he discusses the technical challenges he had to overcome and the artistic, organizational and human particularities of such a production.

Produced for the new Paramount+ platform launched in December 2022, the series "The Offer" is a recreation of a mythical moment in cinema history : the adaptation and production of Mario Puzo’s bestseller "The Godfather". The writer, the main character of the series – who is eventually promoted to co-writer-, is surrounded by an array of protagonists who make up the amazing success of the project. Top of the list, the incredible Matthew Goode, who plays Bob Evans, head of the Paramount studio. He seems to come straight out of the legendary documentary "The Kid Stays in the Picture", originally devoted to him.
For the first time in his long career, Italian-American cinematographer Salvatore Totino (Davinci Code, Everest...) was in charge of this series, and photographed the first six episodes. Three directors follow one another around him (Dexter Fletcher, Adam Arkin and Collin Bucksey). "The Offer" is competing for the Golden Frog for Best Series at Camerimage 2023. (FR)

Une manière pour les producteurs et les diffuseurs de proposer aux téléspectateurs une qualité d’image digne du cinéma et de tenir tête aux plateformes américaines qui ont mis la barre très haut en matière d’image.

TSF Caméra vient d’acquérir deux nouvelles séries d’optiques proposées à la location, une série anamorphique UltraScope historique et rare, qui plaira particulièrement aux amateurs des années 1960 et 1970, et une série anamorphique Atlas Orion, qui offre une alternative intéressante à la série Silver Edition.
