Les Britanniques récompensent leur "Cinematography"

La "British Academy of Film and Television Arts" (BAFTA) et la "British Society of Cinematographers" (BSC) ont récemment – 18 février 2024 pour l’une, 3 février pour l’autre – décerné leur Prix de la Meilleure Photographie. Oppenheimer, de Christopher Nolan, photographié par Hoyte van Hoytema, ASC, FSF, NSC, remporte le BAFTA de la Photographie et Robbie Ryan, BSC, ISC, est le lauréat du 68e Prix BSC de la Meilleure Photographie de long métrage pour Poor Things (Pauvres créatures), de Yorgos Lanthimos.

Étaient également nommés aux BAFTA Awards
- Killers of the Flower Moon, de Martin Scorsese, photographié par Rodrigo Prieto, AMC, ASC (film étalonné par Yvan Lucas)
- Maestro, de Bradley Cooper, photographié par Matthew Libatique, ASC
- Poor Things, de Yorgos Lanthimos, photographié par Robbie Ryan, BSC, ISC
- The Zone of Interest (La Zone d’intérêt), de Jonathan Glazer, photographié par Łukasz Żal, PSC.

A noter que les cinq films nommés pour les BSC Awards ont été tournés sur pellicule, Kodak en l’occurrence : Killers of the Flower Moon (35 mm couleur et N&B), Maestro (35 mm couleur et N&B), Oppenheimer (65 mm couleur et N&B au format IMAX), Poor Things (35 mm couleur et N&B négatives, Ektachrome inversible) et Saltburn (35 mm couleur).
Commentant son prix, Robbie Ryan a fait état de cette singularité et l’a louée : “I want to pay tribute to Yorgos, he is an incredible artist and I learn something from him with each film. I also want to thank CineLab for their amazing work – all five of the nominees this year were shot on film, something we should all be celebrating”.
