Jacques’ friends who were also eminent Steadicam cameramen sent us warm messages. His friends Garrett Brown – the inventor of the Steadicam® –, Chris Fawcett, Dan Kneece, Ruben Sluijter, Alessandro Brambilla, as well as Jack Churchill (Ted Churchill’s brother), and, from France, Loïc Andrieu, Philippe Bordelais, and Jake Russell – a cameraman that Jacques trained over the last few years and who filmed Frédéric Ducomet-Boquier’s film Steadicam Paradox(e)– all paid tribute to a man who never stopped training, advising, and supporting Steadicam operators who are passionate about their profession, and who are today the world’s best in the field, including his own son, Valentin. Régis Prosper, of Cartoni France, the current importer of the Steadicam and an associate member of the AFC, also shared his memories with us.

Wim Wenders grimace quand il glisse un œil dans la caméra pour vérifier le cadre qui répond pourtant scrupuleusement à celui des frères Lumière, lorsque ceux-ci ont filmé la sortie de leur usine, en 1895 : Wim ne souhaite ni avoir de bornes métalliques dans le champ, ni couper les pieds des invités...

At the last Cannes Film Festival we started a series of interviews with directors of photography who were not members of the AFC.

I had the pleasure of meeting Lubomir Bakchev at the special screening, organized jointly with the CST, of A Secret by Claude Miller, photographed by Gérard de Battista.

I knew that the release of The Secret of the Grain (La Graine et le mulet) by Abdellatif Kechiche was imminent and I asked Lubomir to see a preview. I then suggested to Lubomir that we extend our conversation with the present interview.

If I had one wish to make for the AFC, it is that interviews, like the one of Gérard de Battista by Wilfrid Sempé, become a means of strengthening relationships and kinship between members, and of reinforcing that most important subject for the future of our association : the image of a film.

La récente et brusque disparition, en plein tournage dans les Alpes, du directeur de la photographie Luc Drion, SBC, a plongé le petit monde de l’image, ses amis et connaissances, dans une profonde tristesse.
Les premiers messages en témoignent, celles et ceux qui l’ont côtoyé garderont de Luc le souvenir d’un homme particulièrement bon, chaleureux et ouvert.

"Rivages" est une série télévisée franco-belge réalisée par David Hourrègue, dont les six épisodes sont diffusés depuis le 6 janvier sur France 2. Le directeur de la photographie Xavier Dolleans, AFC, revient ici sur les nombreux défis techniques qu’il a dû relever dans le cadre de ce tournage en milieu aquatique.

Les frères Lumière tournent le premier plan de cinéma en filmant la sortie de leur usine, à Lyon, en 1895. Il en existe trois versions : c’est donc bien la première mise en scène de cinéma, ce hangar : son premier décor. Ce qu’ils ignoraient, c’est que plus d’un siècle après eux, d’autres reproduiraient, adapteraient leur scène, le premier plan.
