The AFC at the 65th Cannes Film Festival

[ English ] [ français ]

As is the case every year, the AFC will be present at the Cannes Film Festival first and foremost by the films that have been chosen for the Official Selection (In Competition and Un certain regard), the Directors’ Fortnight and the Critics’ Week, that were filmed by some of its member directors of photography. Ten “AFC” films will be screened this year in these selections. An eleventh film will also be added with a restored classic to be screened at Cannes Classics (see the detail of the “AFC” films in the Official Selection and in the Parallel Selections).

It is also important to note that we will also be present via our associate members who have participated in one of these films, or in another film, in each of their own particular professional capacities (cf. below links towards information that we have received on this subject).
Once again this year we will be the guests of the CST and its pavilion, which will host us for the Festival. This meeting place near the CNC, the French and Parisian Film Commissions, and the Technical Industries, is a particularly coveted meeting place because it is sheltered from the hustle and bustle of the Croisette (Stand 204 and Village International Pantiero).
In this space and its surrounding areas, students from the ENS Louis-Lumière will be able to benefit from the presence of directors of photography in order to film interviews with them, an academic exercise that they will post on the School’s website and that we will relay on ours.
Once again, a director of photography and member of the AFC will be part of the Caméra d’Or jury : the Direction of the Festival and Gilles Jacob himself personally requested that Rémy Chevrin be part of this important jury. Another important jury for the Vulcain Prize for technical artists, awarded by the CST, will also comprise another of the AFC’s directors of photography, Jean-Jacques Bouhon.
We will be sending out a daily Newsletter, and a page will be published every day on our website : we will be providing agendas and portfolios, articles, interviews and images in relation to the films in selection that were filmed by members of the AFC and interviews with “non-AFC” directors of photography, both French and foreign. We will be simultaneously providing regular information and updates on the activities of our associate members at the Cannes Festival.
Even though we can’t tell you how many, we bet that many of our member directors of photography will be enjoying Cannes, either to accompany their selected films or simply as part of the crowd of festival-goers.
