Fujifilm Corporation announces the global launch of the new Fujifilm GFX Eterna 55 digital camera

Contre-Champ AFC n°371

[ English] [ français]

The GFX Eterna 55 is equipped with a large format GFX 102MP CMOS II HS sensor measuring 44 x 33mm, with a diagonal of approximately 55mm, which is about 1.7 times larger than a conventional 35mm full-frame sensor. This larger surface area allows filmmakers to capture rich, realistic images and enjoy greater flexibility in post-production.

The GFX Eterna 55 offers exceptional color reproduction and high image quality, thanks to Fujifilm’s expertise in color reproduction, acquired over more than 90 years.

Its sensor is the largest large-format sensor designed in the world for a cinema camera. It offers filmmakers the ability to adapt lenses with different circle of confusion sizes, selecting from several recording formats : GF Open Gate 4:3, GF 16:9, Premista, 35mm, and Super35, all without loss of resolution.

The camera features a native G-Mount and delivered with the official PL-Mount Adapter-G, expanding the range of compatible lenses and allowing filmmakers to bring their creative vision to life while exploring a variety of visual styles.

Additional product features
An innovative visual expression
- internal eND : The camera incorporates the first electronic variable density ND filter. Among digital cameras with an image sensor measuring 54.8mm diagonally (43.8 × 32.9 mm) and an area approximately 1.7 times that of a 35mm full-frame sensor (according to Fujifilm research).]] in the world compatible with sensors larger than full-frame. This allows for extremely precise control, with smooth adjustment of density from ND 0.6 to ND 2.1 in increments of 0.015, or from 2 to 7 stops in 0.1-stop increments.

- OLPF : New dedicated optical low-pass filter (OLPF), optimized for the large format sensor, using a four-point separation method to reduce moiré and ensure accurate color reproduction.

- Dual Native ISO : Two base sensitivities, ISO 800 and ISO 3200, ensure maximum dynamic range and clean shadows, while preserving highlights with minimal noise, even in the most challenging lighting conditions.

Colorimetry designed for production ?
- Film Simulation Modes : The GFX Eterna 55 offers 20 Film Simulation modes, popularized by the X and GFX series, allowing you to explore a wide variety of visual styles. They can be used for monitoring on set while capturing a clean image in Log, or applied directly to rushes for productions where fast workflow is essential.

- F Gamut C : Compatible with F-Log2 and F-Log2 C color spaces, both offering a dynamic range of over 14 stops. They allow you to take full advantage of the tonal richness of the large format sensor, offering extended flexibility in post-production.

  • Film Simulation 3D LUTs : 10 Film Simulation 3D LUTs (ITU-R BT.709 compliant) are available for precise adjustment of colors and tones in images shot in F-Log2 and/or F-Log2 C.
Among those announced at launch : Eterna, Eterna BleachByPass, Provia, Velvia, and Acros, downloadable from the Fujifilm website.

    - Image Customization : Up to 16 different 3D LUTs, including Film Simulation LUTs, can be stored directly in the camera, allowing you to shoot while previewing the desired final look.

Workflow solutions : various codecs and increased efficiency
- Internal recording : the GFX Eterna 55 supports Apple ProRes [1] 422 HQ, Apple ProRes 422, Apple ProRes 422 LT, as well as HEVC/H.265 and H.264. When shooting in ProRes, the camera can also generate a proxy file in Apple ProRes 422.
- External recording : the camera can transmit an uncompressed 4:2:2 10-bit signal via HDMI, as well as a RAW output up to 8K/30P 12-bit.

  • Direct to Cloud : Camera to Cloud compatible, it allows direct uploading to Frame.io for instant sharing with post-production teams and a significant gain in efficiency from shooting to editing.
t of the electronic ND filter density. Two 3-inch screens, located on either side of the body, allow multiple operators to view or change settings simultaneously.

    - High-brightness external screen : A 5 inch external LCD touchscreen monitor, up to 2,000 nits, ensures optimal visibility even in bright sunlight. It can be rotated on multiple axes and features customizable function buttons for quick access.

    - Power supply : The GFX Eterna 55 is powered via a dedicated V-Mount battery interface, while also supporting a removable NP-W235 internal battery. This provides up to 30 minutes of battery life without an external power source. When replacing the V-Mount battery, the NP-W235 automatically takes over, allowing hot swapping without restarting the camera.

    - Recording media : dual slot compatible with CFExpressTM Type B [2] and SD cards.
