Recap of IAGA 2024 in London
By Richard Andry, AFCImago’s Annual General Assembly (IAGA) was hosted by the BSC in the 75th year of the anniversary of its founding, from 14-15 February 2024 in London. This hybrid event was conducted both in-person and online. Mustapha Barat, ABC, the President of Imago, and Mike Eley, BSC, representing Chris Ross, the President of the BSC, opened the session, which was masterfully moderated by Tim Palmer, BSC.
Luciano Tovoli, AIC, one of the founding fathers of the Imago federation, joining by videoconference, moved to grant honorary membership to Paul-René Roestadt, FNF, the former President of Imago and a major figure in the federation.
An election will be held for the new Board members for the next three years at an extraordinary general assembly that will be held in Brussels in June. Lars Petterson, FSF, was elected to the Electoral Committee.
It was also decided that the next IAGA (2025) would be held at Sao Paolo (Brazil), hosted by the ABC, and that the 2026 IAGA would be held in Vienna (AAC).
The 2023 budget and the planned budget for 2024 were voted on.
Then, a new working group was introduced : the Committee for the Preservation and Restoration of Films, whose members will be Caroline Champetier, AFC, Lauro Escorel, ABC, Danielle Massuccesi, AIC, and Fernanda Tanaka, ABC. The principal goals of this committee would be discussed the following day during the talks by the various committees on their activities.
Denis Lenoir, AFC, ASC, ASK, spoke about the importance of having better communication between the various associations, and he was seconded by Bojana Andric, SAS, who suggested the idea of starting a communication chain on the DISCORD application. To be continued.
The second day started with a brilliant technical demonstration by Arri Colour Science, by Regine Krämer (Head of Light Sources and Light Lab at Arri) and Marc Shipman-Mueller (Product Manager Camera Systems at Arri). Arri was one of the official sponsors of the 2024 IAGA.
Then came a demonstration of Nanlux spots (another sponsor) by Rodney Charters, ASC, who created a joyful journey through time for us by projecting personal photos he had accumulated since the start of his career, showing the development in lighting technologies. I felt like I was seeing my life flash before my eyes…
In the afternoon, the various working groups presented their activities and requested more financial support.
