A look back at the IAGA Imago 2025 in São Paulo
by Eric Guichard, AFCThis was the first time that an IAGA had been organised outside Europe since Imago changed its status from a European federation to an International federation, and it was a resounding success with a larger presence from South America.
On our side, Evgenia Alexandrova represented the AFC as a delegate.
Denis Lenoir, AFC, ASC, ASK, who has contributed greatly to the renewal of Imago, did not stand for re-election to the Board but was present, as was Éric Guichard, AFC, as Imago’s financial controller, who was re-elected for three years until 2024.
Mustapha Barrat, ABC, was re-elected for another three years as Imago’s President, and two new members were elected to the Board, Teresa Medina, AEC, and Thomas Favel, AFC.
The meeting took place in a cheerful, friendly and studious atmosphere, focusing on the challenges facing both the future of Imago and its limited resources, as well as the future of cinematography for new generations.
Many delegates were attending for the first time, with a noticeable rejuvenation and, above all, in a calm and constructive atmosphere. Ten female directors of photography were present at the meeting.
Two important presentations were given :
- Women in Cinematography, with the participation of Evgenia Alexandrova, AFC, Adriana Bernal, ADFC, Kika Cunha, ABC, Astrid Heubrandtner, AAC, and moderated by Erika Addis, ACS.
- The screening, in very good conditions, of the AFC comparative tests presented by Denis Lenoir.

The IAGA could not have been organised without the active support of the ABC and its president, Fernanda Tanaka, who was incredibly generous and warm, Mustapha Barrat, who, as in previous years, pulled out all the stops, Marcela Bourseau, ABC, Imago’s treasurer, and Carolina Piquet, from Imago’s administration.
This IAGA took place ahead of ABC Week, details of which can be found here more détails.
The next IAGA will take place in Vienna in March 2026 and will be organised by the Austrian association AAC.
