Bernard Le Coq

Nous avons appris avec tristesse la nouvelle du décès du directeur de la photographie et réalisateur de films publicitaires Bernard Joliot, survenu à Clamart, dimanche 17 novembre 2019, dans sa quatre-vingt-neuvième année. Ayant débuté, dès l’âge de 18 ans, à la caméra comme assistant de son oncle Robert Gudin à Cinéma et Publicité, il y entamera une carrière de directeur de la photo de films publicitaires qu’il poursuivra - en parallèle du cinéma de 1975 à 1992 - de manière indépendante jusqu’en 2005. Trois directeurs de la photo et un chef électricien témoignent.

Pierre Trividic and Patrick Mario Bernard have been directing films together since the 1980s. Their filmography reveals a taste for the strange and the fantastic, such as Le Cas Lovecraft (documentary), Dancing, L’Autre. With L’Angle mort, they offer us a cinema that engages simultaneously with political and romantic issues. We met Jonathan Ricquebourg, AFC, last year, to discuss Jean-Bernard Marlin’s vigorous film Sheherezade. Since then, he has also signed off on the image of Jean-Charles Hue’s Tijuana Bible, and is currently working with the Trividic-Mario Bernard tandem on their latest film, L’Angle mort. This film is presented by the ACID at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.

Pierre Trividic et Patrick Mario Bernard réalisent en duo depuis les années 1980. Leur filmographie reflète un goût pour l’étrange et le fantastique, Le Cas Lovecraft (documentaire), Dancing, L’Autre. Avec L’Angle mort, ils proposent un cinéma aux enjeux à la fois politiques et romanesques. Nous avions rencontré l’an dernier Jonathan Ricquebourg, AFC, pour le vigoureux Shéhérazade, de Jean-Bernard Marlin. Il a depuis signé l’image de Tijuana Bible, de Jean-Charles Hue, et accompagne aujourd’hui le tandem Trividic-Mario Bernard pour leur dernier film L’Angle mort. Ce film est présenté par l’ACID au Festival de Cannes 2019.

Although it might seem an exaggeration, this little wink at Robert Doisneau is the opportunity to remind our readers that over a dozen members of the AFC – and I may not have had the opportunity of recognizing everyone in attendance – attended a nearly-full auditorium on Wednesday, 20 March at 8pm to support Bruno Nuytten at the opening of the retrospective that was dedicated to him at the Cinémathèque française.

Although not well-known by audiences, filmmaker Patrick Grandperret, who passed away at Saint-Maur-des-Fossé on Saturday, 9 March at the age of 72, seduced generation of cinephiles with his films, which were full of freedom, poetry and tenderness, but also of surprising audaciousness. Borne by the fluidity of his camera style and the energy of his actors, his work, which, although it was not prolific was recognized by his peers, cut across the trends and changes in cinema and television for nearly four decades.

I met Patrick fifty-six years ago and he is one of the few people that I have never had the slightest disagreement with over such a long period of time. A friendship, an exceptional fraternity through our shared passions: motorcycles and cinema.

Le Brexit, qui commence à tourner à la mauvaise farce, ne m’a pas empêché d’aller rendre mon habituelle petite visite au BSC Expo, qui se tenait à Londres une semaine avant notre bien aimé et tant apprécié AFC Micro Salon. Et si je vous relate ce petit voyage avec retard, c’est qu’un certain nombre d’évènements imprévus, sur lesquels je ne m’étendrai pas, sont venus ralentir mes neurones déjà presque aussi usés que mes disques vertébraux.

Présidé par Olivier Marchal, le jury Fiction était composé de Julie Debazac, Bénédicte Delmas, Hamid Hlioua, Jean Labib, Lucie Lucas, Nathaniel Méchaly, Cristiana Reali et Michaël Youn. Le jury Documentaires était présidé par Bernard Le Coq et le jury Série digitale, par Joël Bassaget. Le prix de la meilleure photographie de la sélection Fiction a été attribué à Christophe Nuyens pour Zone blanche, de Thierry Poiraud.
