AFC Micro Salon show and Post-Production Days

Meet Maluna Lighting on the 5^th and 6^th of February at La Femis, Paris, for the 2016 annual issue of the Micro Salon.

K5600 always believed in being close to the end-users and participating in exhibitions and Festivals is a great opportunity to exchange information and ideas. This often leads to new ideas for new products. The new Alpha 800W was born from some of these discussions over the years.

The French cinematographic community has always displayed a keen interest in both the technological and artistic aspects of cinema, especially with many renowned French equipment manufacturers and cinematographers having a successful history in exporting their technologies and talents across the worldwide stage.

RVZ showed some interesting new products at AFC Micro Salon last week. Jon Fauer, Director of Photography and editor of the famous website Film and Digital Times, gives us his feedback.

The 2015 AFC Micro Salon, which will take place on 6-7 February, features stands on three floors of La fémis: the ground level (courtyard and entrance), the first basement floor (level -1), and the 2^nd floor. Access to all levels is via the central staircase inside the building. Below, you will find maps of the various exposition rooms and the location of each of the participating AFC associate members’ stands.

Once again, there will be many new products to see on the Emit booth this year. The Micro Salon is a privileged moment for our manufactures to share their knowledge and experiences with the end users. Some will find a source of inspiration and others will find solutions to help complete their projects.

Organized by the AFC, the 15^th AFC Micro Salon will be held on the premises of La fémis in Paris on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 February 2015.

Now that the pages of the 14^th Micro Salon have been turned, we take this time to reflect upon this event, which went by at the speed of light. We would like to mention the new discoveries and meetings with familiar friends, the lovely combination of the latest innovations and blasts from the past, and especially the friendly ambience that the AFC’s Directors of Photography attempted to maintain against all odds.

On the day of the César Awards, Aurélie Filippetti, the Minister for Culture and Communication, honored French achievements and technological innovations in the 7^th Art. The Minister paid a visit to the Micro Salon organized by the Association française des directeurs de la photographie cinématographique (AFC).

Once again, the curtain fell on the Micro Salon with acclaim for its success. We know that if the event is held again in the future, there are many things that could be improved. But, the presentations made by our associate member partners on their know-how were a success, whether they took place at their booth, during a workshop, or at a screening.

Since most of the AFC’s associate members will be presenting at this two-day event, we would like to publish a summary of what they will be presenting. Here is a summary of their presentation along with the program and schedule of the workshops, meet-and-greet sessions, and screenings.

As a little light from the camera tests I visited the AFC Micro Salon at the beginning of February, which was a delightful experience. I must say it was small but perfectly formed.
Held at La Femis, the Film School, not only were eminent cinematographers there but students which added to the "buzz", and gave the whole place a feeling of great energy.

Willy Stassen, President, and members of the Society of Belgian Cinematographers where invited by the AFC, as Imago members, to the 2009 edition of Micro Salon at La fémis Cinema School in Paris last February 6 and 7^th.

For its ninth year, the Micro Salon hosted by the AFC will be once again held at the Femis School in the 18^th district of Paris.
First novelty: unlike previous years, the Salon will take place over two days, on Friday February 6^th, from 10AM to 8PM and on Saturday February 7^th, from 10AM to 5PM.
Another innovation: the AFC will organize two panel discussions on Saturday morning in the Jean Renoir screening room of the Femis.
To highlight the artistic as well as the technical aspects of custom-made shooting tools, there will be a panel presentation with film excerpts by members of the crew of Oceans, the upcoming huge film project directed by Jacques Cluzaud and Jacques Perrin.
Also, this year the AFC has decided to open the Micro Salon to Europe, and to present European directors of photography by inviting our sister Belgian association, the SBC, to whom we give carte blanche.
