Available on Netflix, the film Ballad of a Small Player, by Edward Berger, features Collin Farrell as a debt-ridden gambler living it up in the glitz and glamour of Macau. Invited by Aputure and interviewed by Jorrit Dijkstra, cinematographer James Friend, ASC, BSC, and gaffer Harlon Haveland shared with the Camerimage audience their unique experience of filming in the casinos of this artificial Chinese island, which Orson Wells described as “the most perverted city in the world”.

Disponible sur Netflix, le film Ballad of a Small Player, d’Edward Berger, présente Collin Farrell en joueur endetté évoluant dans le faste de Macao. Gilles Porte, AFC, is currently filming Lady Nazca in Peru, a film directed by Damien Dorsaz. As in 2014 on 3000 Night, by Mai Nasri, and 2015 on Dans les forêts de Sibérie, by Safy Nebbou, Gilles once again offers us two images per day, taken by him (unless otherwise stated) along with his commentary. A sort of diary of things seen or felt, moments captured on the camera or smartphone.

Gilles Porte, AFC, est actuellement en tournage au Pérou sur Lady Nazca, un film réalisé par Damien Dorsaz. Comme il l’avait déjà fait en 2014 avec 3000 Night, de Mai Nasri, et en 2015 avec Dans les forêts de Sibérie, de Safy Nebbou, Gilles nous propose de nouveau deux images par jour, dont il est l’auteur, sauf mention contraire, commentées par lui. Une sorte de journal de choses vues ou ressenties, instants saisis avec l’appareil photo ou le smartphone.

Set in the snowy landscapes of northern Japan, filmmaker Hiroshi Okuyama delivers a figure skating film bathed in pastel colours and timeless charm. A trio of characters ; a former skating star turned coach in this very rural village, a highly promising student, and a clumsy, dreamy young hockey player whose eyes light up for the latter. Filmed by the director himself, this delicate fable about adolescence, unspoken feelings and transmission is presented in the Un Certain Regard selection of the Cannes competition. (FR)

A major player in the creation of still and moving images, Canon has listened to cinematographers over the last few years and now offers them new tools that are perfectly adapted to the latest techniques in cinematography.

Robert Altman, agé de 81 ans, s’est éteint lundi 20 novembre 2006.

En cinquante-cinq ans, le cinéaste américain a dirigé pas moins de quatre-vingt-six films ou téléfilms, en a produit trente-neuf et a écrit les scénarios de trente-sept dont certains, comme M.A.S.H. ou The Player, restent dans toutes les mémoires.
