Carlos Reygadas

With Rietland (Reedland), Dutch filmmaker Sven Bresser has made an anti-dramatic debut film deeply rooted in a landscape and a little-known tradition that is gradually disappearing : the culture of reed in the north of the Netherlands. Both an esoteric tale and a social commentary on rural life, the film unfolds in a somewhat timeless rural setting in shades of gold, beige and brown. The 16mm 2.4 format evokes the texture of Carlos Reygadas’ cinema and, with its strong ties to a specific region, that of Bruno Dumont. Sam du Pon, NSC, is lighting and framing this somewhat unique film, in competition at Critics’ Week 2025. (FR)

Avec Rietland (Reedland), le cinéaste néerlandais Sven Bresser signe un premier film antidramatique, profondément ancré dans un paysage et une tradition méconnue qui se perd peu à peu, celle de la culture des roseaux au nord des Pays-Bas. A la fois conte ésotérique et récit social campagnard, le film évolue dans ce décor rural un peu hors du temps dans un dégradé de beige et de bruns. L’image en 16 mm format 2,4 évoquant par sa texture le cinéma de Carlos Reygadas ou par son ancrage avec un territoire celui de Bruno Dumont. C’est Sam du Pon, NSC, qui signe la lumière et les cadres de ce film singulier, en compétition à la Semaine de la Critique. (FR)
