Jacques Girault discusses the visual challenges of Alice Douard’s film, "Des preuves d’amour" ("Proofs of Love")
By Margot Cavret for the AFC

Les entretiens au Festival de Cannes 2025

In Alice Douard’s Des preuves d’amour (Proofs of Love), presented at Critics’ Week, Ella Rumpf plays a young woman whose wife is pregnant with their future child. A woman and future mother, but not pregnant, in 2014, just after the law authorizing same-sex marriage was passed, she tries to collect "proof of love", testimonials from her loved ones that will allow her to legally adopt her child. While facing the doubts and concerns of any future parent, she must also overcome judgment and reconnect with her mother, played by Noémie Lvovsky, whose testimony will be crucial. To accompany this intimate and original subject matter with all the accuracy, sensitivity, and originality it requires, director of photography Jacques Girault tells us about his visual choices, from preparation to shooting.

AFC Interviews at the "Séries Mania" Festival in Lille, 2025 edition Adrien Bertolle looks back at the filming of the series "The Deal", directed by Jean-Stéphane Bron
"The unknown of the lake", by François Reumont for the AFC

Entretiens avec des directeurs de la photographie

"The Deal" is a series that recreates a recent historical event by showing the inner workings and behind-the-scenes of an international negotiation on the shores of Lake Geneva. Steeped in the atmosphere of realistic spy series and films (including "The Bureau"), where the plot is conveyed largely through the relationships between characters rather than through action per se, it is also a kind of closed-door drama set in a luxury Swiss hotel. The setting is reminiscent of Edward Berger’s recent film Conclave, in which other international negotiations were taking place within the Vatican. Adrien Bertolle is the director of photography for this six-episode series, directed by Jean-Stéphane Bron, co-produced by Arte & Gaumont, and in international competition at Séries Mania. (FR)
