Renate Reinsve

Joachim Trier nous avait offert, en 2021, l’émouvant Julie en 12 chapitres – chronique tournée dans la capitale norvégienne – pour lequel sa comédienne principale Renate Reinsve avait même remporté le prix d’interprétation cannois. Il revient en 2025 avec Sentimental Value (Valeur sentimentale), un film plus choral, dont le personnage central est une maison de famille. On y retrouve la même comédienne, accompagnée cette fois-ci par Stellan Skargärd, qui compose un émouvant cinéaste en fin de carrière tentant de monter financièrement son film testament. Les vétérans du Festival penseront forcément à Clint Eastwood dans Chasseur blanc, cœur noir (Cannes 1990), dont la trame n’est pas si éloignée de ce film. Kasper Tuxen, DFF, vient nous parler de ce film caustique et tendre sur le cinéma... et ceux qui le font. Le film a obtenu le Grand Prix au Festival de Cannes 2025. (FR)

In 2021, Joachim Trier brought us the moving The Worst Person in the World, a chronicle shot in the Norwegian capital for which lead actress Renate Reinsve won the Best Actress prize at Cannes. He returns in 2025 with Sentimental Value, a more choral film whose central character is a family house. The same actress stars as a young stage talent, as Stellan Skargärd, who plays his father, an oldtime filmmaker trying to put together a financial package for his last movie. Festival veterans will maybe think about Clint Eastwood’s White Hunter, Black Heart (Cannes 1990), whose character and structure is not so far away. At the Grand Théâtre Lumière, Joachim Trier delivered the portrait of a woman over the course of seven years, from her graduation from university to her thirtieth birthday. This is The Worst Person in the World, played by the wonderful Renate Reinsve, surrounded by Herbert Nordrum and Anders Danielsen Lie, in fourteen tableaux (including prologue and epilogue) of a modern and touching romance. Danish cinematographer Kasper Tuxen, DFF, has teamed up on this project with his Norwegian neighbors to film this bittersweet love story. (FR)
