Jonathan Ricquebourg

Like their other films, Tralala, by Arnaud and Jean-Marie Larrieu, is an eccentric poem in which Mathieu Amalric, their favorite actor, plays a homeless musician who is visited by religious passion. Filmed between Paris and Lourdes (their hometown), this film is also a musical comedy where the different songs are sung by the actors themselves. Jonathan Ricquebourg, AFC, was behind the camera, and traveled alongside the filmmaker brothers on their strange journey to a city deserted by its pilgrims because of Covid. (FR)

Assumant à fond son statut de remake d’un film concept en provenance du Japon, Coupez !, de Michel Hazanavicius, est surtout une comédie sur le milieu du cinéma, avec un casting de premier plan. Ce nouveau film du réalisateur de The Artist fait donc l’ouverture du 75^e Festival de Cannes avec son rythme trépidant, son plan-séquence d’ouverture de trente minutes et sa construction très particulière, fidèle à l’original — mais traduite littéralement dans l’univers hexagonal du cinéma. Jonathan Ricquebourg, AFC, en est le directeur de la photo et il nous livre les coulisses de ce grand jeu ambitieux qu’a constitué le tournage de ce film. (FR)

With La Tour de glace, Lucile Hadzihalilovic takes on the adaptation of a children’s story by Andersen (The Snow Queen), a version of which (although rather far removed from the original work) was popularized by Disney Studios in 2013. Of course, Disney kept the fantastic and fairytale elements of the original, which Jonathan Ricquebourg, AFC, worked hard to bring out. An original film that mixes several narrative layers and is set against the background of a film shoot... In official competition at the Berlinale 2025, this film won the Silver Bear for Best Artistic Contribution, which recognizes the work of an entire team. (FR)

Jonathan Ricquebourg sort de l’ENS Louis-Lumière, section Cinéma, en 2013 et éclaire le film de Jean-Charles Hue Mange tes morts, Tu ne diras point puis Fils de, de HPG. Il reçoit le prix de la Meilleure photographie du Festival de Tirana en 2015 pour Banat, il viaggio, d’Adriano Valerio. C’est avec Albert Serra, réalisateur catalan et exigeant, qu’il continue son parcours avec La Mort de Louis XIV, en séance spéciale sur la Croisette.

Dans la lignée de leurs autres films, Tralala, d’Arnaud et Jean-Marie Larrieu, est un poème un peu foutraque où Mathieu Amalric, leur comédien de prédilection, incarne cette fois-ci un musicien clochard visité par la passion. Filmé entre Paris et Lourdes (leur ville natale), ce film est également une comédie musicale où les différents morceaux sont interprétés par les comédiens eux-mêmes. Jonathan Ricquebourg, AFC, est cette fois-ci derrière la caméra pour accompagner les deux frères cinéastes dans leur étrange périple par temps de Covid dans une ville désertée par les pèlerins. (FR)

Unselfconsciously embracing its status as a remake of a concept film from Japan, Final Cut, by Michel Hazanavicius, is above all a comedy about the world of cinema, with a star-studded cast. This latest film from the director of The Artist with its hectic pace, its thirty-minute opening long take and its very particular construction, which is faithful to the original but has literally been translated into the language of French cinema, is being screened at the opening of the 75th Cannes Film Festival. Jonathan Ricquebourg, AFC, is the director of photography and here, he recounts the behind the scenes of the shooting of this film, a great, ambitious game. (FR)

Entre documentaire et fiction, Casablanca, d’Adriano Valerio, dresse une cartographie des visages et des cultures entre Fouad, immigré marocain, et Daniela, une ex-toxico qui passent un bout de leur chemin ensemble. Ce film d’une heure est présenté le 7 septembre à Venise dans la section Venetian Nights. Jonathan Ricquebourg, AFC, partage les crédits d’image avec Diego Romero. Pour Shéhérazade, son premier long métrage, il propose au jeune directeur de la photo Jonathan Ricquebourg, AFC, de s’engager sur ce film rugueux, tourné avec des acteurs non professionnels. Sorti de l’Ecole Louis-Lumière, section Cinéma, en 2013, Jonathan démarre sa carrière avec Jean-Charles Hue pour Mange tes morts, tu ne diras point, film sélectionné à la Quinzaine des réalisateurs et prix Jean Vigo 2014. Il y a deux ans, il était à Cannes avec Albert Serra, pour La Mort de Louis XIV, prix Lumières en 2017. Nous le retrouvons cette année pour parler de cette aventure de cinéma et de lumière : Shéhérazade, sélectionné à la 57^e Semaine de la Critique. (BB)

Jean-Bernard Marlin garnered critical attention with his two short films, La Peau dure and La Fugue. He offered young cinematographer Jonathan Ricquebourg, AFC, the opportunity to film his first feature-length project, a rough-hewn film with non-professional actors. A graduate of the Ecole Louis-Lumière’s Cinema department (class of 2013), Jonathan began his career with Jean-Charles Hue on Eat Your Bones, a film selected in the Directors’ Fortnight and winner of the 2014 Prix Jean Vigo. Two years ago, he was at Cannes with Albert Serra, for The Death of Louis XIV, awarded the Prix Lumières in 2017. Once again, he is at Cannes this year for an adventure of cinema and light : Scheherazade, selected in the 57th International Critics’ Week. (BB)
