En 2019, Julie Conte signe son premier long métrage en tant que directrice de la photographie, Playlist, de Nine Antico, auteure connue de romans graphiques, passée pour la première fois à la réalisation de cinéma. Dans une économie très limitée, le film s’est élaboré de façon très “artisanale”, en petite équipe par Atelier de Production. Après deux ans et plusieurs confinements, nous sommes contents de voir enfin la sortie de ce film au cinéma le 2 juin 2021, et nous revenons tous les trois sur cette aventure qui restera si spéciale pour tous ceux qui y ont participé.

Gilles Porte, AFC, est actuellement en tournage en Thaïlande sur Fils de personne (Nobody’s Son), un film réalisé par Safy Nebbou. Comme il l’avait déjà fait en 2014 avec 3000 Nuits, de Mai Nasri, en 2015 avec Dans les forêts de Sibérie, de Safy Nebbou, en 2024 avec Lady Nasca, de Damien Dorsaz, Gilles nous propose de nouveau deux images par jour, dont il est l’auteur, sauf mention contraire, commentées par lui. Une sorte de journal de choses vues ou ressenties, instants saisis avec l’appareil photo ou le smartphone.

Lars Weyer a été nommé, à compter du 20 mars 2023, membre du conseil d’administration et directeur financier d’Arri. Cette annonce a été faite par le conseil de surveillance de l’entreprise mondiale de technologie cinématographique. À ce poste, Lars Weyer est responsable des départements finances, ressources humaines, informatique et gestion des installations.

They have agreed to send us two images extracted from the daily photographic journal they are keeping during the shooting of the film 3000 Nights, directed by Mai Masri. An encounter with Jacques Delacoux, one of the AFC’s associate members who has remained as genuine and likeable as the first day his company, Transvideo, became an associate member of our association. An indefatigable globetrotter, he attends international trade fairs, workshops, festivals, and master classes all over the world. He opened the doors of his company in Verneuil-sur-Avre to us, in order to tell us about the company’s beginnings, the equipment it manufactures, his perspective on his profession, his encounters, his choices, and to sum it up, just what cinema means to him.

In the latest news from ACS France, the release in theatres of Nous finirons ensemble, by Guillaume Canet and photographed by Christophe Offenstein, shot with our Russian Arm on a boat. This month, we are talking aerial coordination, with all types of aircrafts, used on big budget films and films shot by AFC members.

The IMAGO Board : President Andreas Fischer-Hansen, DFF, Vice-president Tony Costa, AIP, and General Secretary Paul-René Roestad, FNF, had their yearly board meeting in Paris, hosted by AFC in rue Francoeur.

Following its Ordinary General Assembly, held on Saturday March 22, 2025 at La Fémis - during which the AFC statutorily renewed its Board of Directors - the Board met on Tuesday April 29 to elect the association’s new Executive Committee. Jean-Marie Dreujou, AFC, ASC, was re-elected for a further term as President of the AFC.

Following the Ordinary General Assembly of the AFC, which took place in the Salle Demy of La Fémis, Saturday the 19th of March 2023, during which its Board was renewed, the Bureau was also renewed on the 3rd of April. Claire Mathon has been re-elected as Co-President of the AFC, that she shares this year with Jean-Marie Dreujou.

In his latest film Bertrand Bonello juggles genres and eras between ethnological documentary, historical recreation and fiction. On the one side it depicts female teenage life at a boarding school and on the other a history of Voodoo practices and slavery in Haïti. Yves Cape, AFC, SBC, lensed this unusual film in competition at the Quinzaine des réalisateurs (Directors Fortnight). (FR)

In March 2023, a strike is in full swing in France, disrupting transport and complicating journeys. Claire Mathon, who lives in Paris, must travel every day to the Bry-sur-Marne studios in the distant suburbs, where she is shooting Pablo Agüero’s film Saint-Ex. She has therefore asked the production company – and this will be her only luxury – for a driver to get her there. During this hour-long journey, she sees the sun rise and, for the first time in her life, enjoys the traffic jams that allow her to delay a little the moment when, every day for 47 days, she will enter the famous 1,000m2 studio B5, from which she will not leave until nightfall.

Lors d’une assemblée générale extraordinaire qui s’est tenue en visioconférence samedi 4 septembre 2021, Imago (Fédération internationale des associations de directeurs de la photographie) a procédé à l’élection de sa présidence et au renouvellement de son "Board" (conseil d’administration). Elen Lotman, ESC, et Ron Johanson, ACS, ont été élus coprésidente et coprésident d’Imago.

After The Square (Palme d’or 2017) and Snow Therapy (Un Certain Regard 2014), Swedish director Ruben Östlund makes his return to the Croisette with a hilarious bombshell where certain scenes rise to the height of Monty Python’s Himalayas. Triangle of Sadness thrilled audiences during the first weekend of the festival, sparking hilarious laughter in the theater as buckets of vomit spilled onto the screen. Cinematographer Fredrik Wenzel, FSF, teamed up with the Gothenburg director again on this marathon shoot of nearly eighty-five days (interrupted at the very start of the pandemic in March 2020, then resumed in the fall). He tells us of his joy at having been able to film this new film, which is a serious contender for this year’s top prize. Depuis vingt ans, la réalisatrice belge Vero Cratzborn et le directeur de la photographie Matthieu Bastid font des courts métrages ensemble. Mais pour le premier long métrage de la réalisatrice, tourné dans les Hauts-de-France et en Belgique, en coproduction belgo-franco-suisse à majorité belge, Vero Cratzborn a fait appel à Philippe Guilbert, AFC, SBC, habitué des coproductions entre la Belgique et la France, et aux tournages à deux caméras. Matthieu opère la deuxième caméra (LA).

“I can’t get enough of this impression of blinding light and absolute blackness.” Darius Khondji, AFC, ASC, loves the dazzling effect of strong lights and, by contrast, the deep blacks where the light is engulfed and disappears completely.

Cinematographer Claudio Miranda, ASC, who was recently contacted by Sony to try out its new Venice camera, was a member of the competition jury at Camerimage. Three-time Oscar winner Vittorio Storaro, who has been working with Woody Allen since 2015, is currently shooting in Paris. Billed as a return to the thriller genre (in the same vein as Crimes and Misdemeanors and Match Point, the two black pearls in his long filmography), this film is expected to be the New York filmmaker’s final film. In this interview, Vittorio Storaro, AIC, ASC, reflects on his mythical career, his definition of the role of a "Author of cinematography" (and not Director of photography) as well as on The Muses of Light, his exclusive series of LED spotlights and softlights developed with De Sisti and which were given the names of Zeus’ nine daughters. Les Rencontres Light Première s’inscrivent dans le cadre du Salon Elec, un important salon international annuel consacré à l’éclairage et à l’électricité dans les domaines du bâtiment et des travaux publics.

C’est par ce titre que l’ISC, Indian Society of Cinematographers, annonçait joyeusement sur sa page Facebook que l’Inde avait été choisie cette année comme pays invité par l’AFC au Micro Salon, dans le cadre de la Carte blanche, et que des invitations officielles avaient été adressées aux trois organisations professionnelles indiennes représentatives de l’image de film (ISC, WICA et SICA), qu’un film de 45 minutes, réalisé spécialement pour cet évènement serait projeté et suivi d’une discussion avec des membres de l’AFC.

Viva Indian Cinematography. That’s the title chosen by ISC, (Indian Society of Cinematographers) to happily announce on their Facebook page that AFC, the French Society of Cinematographers, have invited India as the Guest Country at the Micro Salon happening in Paris on 27th January 2017, with official invitations sent to ISC, WICA (Western Indian Society of Cinematographers) & SICA (Southern Indian Cinematographers Association) .
